The aim of this presentation is to highlight the causes of terrorism and analyze the measures to eradicate it with particular reference to Bangladesh . Terrorists activities are increasing day by day all over the world. Killing of an individual or a group, exploding bombs, kidnapping, sabotaging, bank robbing, hijacking . of all type of vehicles, barricade and hostage, destruction of property and set ablaze the buildings are the common actions of terrorists. Technological advancement such as automatic weapons and compact electrically-detonated explosives gave terrorists a new dimension of criminal activities. Terrorism and its Origin Terrorism has been defined in many ways. Encyclopedia of the social sciences defines terrorism as, “‘It is a term used to describe the method where by an organized group or a party seeks to achieve its vowed aims, chiefly through the systematic use of violence. Terrorist acts are directed against persons who as individuals, agents or representatives of authority interfere with the consummation or the objections of such a group. The terrorists do not threaten; death or destruction is part of his programmes of action and if he is caught, his behavior during trial is generally directed primarily not towards winning his freedom but towards spreading a knowledge of his doctrines.”2 To understand the problem of terrorism, we should look into what makes a person terrorist. Generally people with the characteristics of action oriented and aggressive minded turn into terrorist. Most of the terrorist sustained psychological damage during childhood. Some of them had lost father or mother or of both at the age of 14 years.
